This year (2020), Canada surpassed the goal of inviting 100,000 candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence, after inviting another 5,000 federal Express Entry candidates invitations to apply on November 18th. This is the largest number of invitations ever issued in a calendar year.
A total of 102,350 immigration candidates were invited to apply in 2020. The recent increase in the number of invitations may come as no surprise, after Canada announced its plans to welcome a record number of new permanent residents by 2023.
Canada plans to welcome over 400,000 new permanent residents every year between 2021 and 2023. At least 100,000 of these will come through the Express Entry system.
