Spousal sponsorship applications are now being expedited in Canada until the end of this year, as part of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) plan to expedite up to 6,000 applications per month between October and December 2020.
Canada wishes to welcome 70,000 immigrants each year under its spousal, partner and children category. Canada updated the targets under its new 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan, which was announced a few weeks ago. The goal is to raise the target by 80,000 immigrants, most of which will arrive under spousal sponsorship.
Canadian citizens and permanent residents can sponsor the following categories of partners for permanent resident status: spouse; common-law partner; or conjugal partner.
